On Nov. 6, 2009, during its 45th reunion, the Class of 1964 formally gifted the Mall of Heroes to the Academy — adding two statues to that of 1st Lt. Karl Richter. 

Capt. Valmore Bourque ’60 was the first USAFA graduate killed in combat. Capt. Lance Sijan ’65 was the first graduate to receive the Medal of Honor. All three stand tall at the base of the Core Values Ramp, inspiring generations of cadets.
