Help Air Force Academy Family Businesses

Many Academy graduate and USAFA family-owned businesses are struggling right now due to the global pandemic. We're building a list of businesses that could use some help from the Academy family community. Note that this is not an endorsement of these listed businesses, but just grads, True Blue Businesses and parents who have reached out for assistance.

Glover Family Medicine Monument, CO (Other)
Jamie (Dahlgren) Glover '95 gloverfamilymedicine.com Facebook
Status: Family Medicine Clinic (healthcare) - Open and Fully Operational
Business Impact: I have a unique Direct Primary Care type of family medicine clinic. My main patient population is comprised of citizens who are self-employed (massage therapists, realtors, etc) or work for small businesses or small non-profits. Small businesses and small non-profits usually do not/cannot provide medical insurance to these patients. Many of my patients are un- or under-insured. Some make only a few thousand dollars per year too much for Medicaid. Many of my other patients who are lucky enough to have insurance have very high deductible insurance with deductibles over $7000 or have a health share in lieu of insurance. Individual medical insurance is just too expensive for them. My clinic is a safety net for these types of patients. To be tranparent, we do also have some patients who have good insurance (such as Tricare Select).
Help: We started a new account on March 20 called the Helping Hands Fund. I promised my patients I would not abandon them during this time. However, I also have a staff to pay. Some of my patients cannot afford their medical services due to job loss, spousal job loss, or being shut down by an executive order. Starting in early to mid-March, we decided to serve them anyway for the next 12-18 months, even when they can't pay. We have been using this small fund to cover their in-house medical services when they can't, such as wholesale lab bills, medications from my wholesale pharmacy, medical visits, in-office procedures, etc. We ask them to pay what they can, and then we still provide the rest of the service. So far, myself, my parents, sisters, a couple of friends, and three patients have donated a little to this fund. Just today I sent out a mass email to some of my patients hoping a few might have capacity and be willing to donate to these brothers and sisters in our local community. This fund does not have official charity status at this time. It is a separate account. Donations can be made to Glover Family Medicine with "Helping Hands Fund" in the memo line and sent to Glover Family Medicine, 1840 Deer Creek Rd, Suite 101, Monument CO 80132. We can also accept donations by ACH or cash. We will provide a receipt and a heartfelt thank you. We have already used this fund for six patients. They have cried tears of gratitude and given us spontaneous promises that they will pay-it-forward when they can. Also, if there is anyone out there with professional expertise who could donate their services in advising me or helping me make this into an official charity, I would be so appreciative.

Blue River Vision Silverthorne, CO (Other)
Jessica Hegewald ('20 parent) bluerivervision.com Facebook
Status: Optometry / Medical - Delivery, Carry Out/Curbside Pick Up, Online Shopping, Limited Hours
Business Impact: In order to halt the spread of COVID-19, Summit County, Colorado has ordered all businesses such as ours to close except to emergency eye care cases. This is hard hit to our new business (less than two years old) and means we have had to cancel or defer nearly all patient exams resulting in a complete loss of income while we are still trying to support our employees without laying them off.
Help: We can still fulfill contacts and glasses prescriptions and our family practice can still meet or beat the prices of 1-800 contacts - and we can have them shipped directly to you. This keeps it local and helps a small business in the community. Reach out to us at www.bluerivervision.com or 970-368-6539 and we would love to take care of your eye care needs. And while not an USAFA grad myself like our 2020-er son, I'm happy to serve the Colorado Air National Guard as Chief of Optometry for the 140 Medical Group at Buckley AFB. Thanks! Maj. Jessica Hegewald, OD.
