John H. Martinson '70

John H. Martinson has been a venture capitalist and software industry leader for 35 years. In 1986 Mr. Martinson founded Edison Venture Fund which has invested 1 billion in over 190 East Coast information technology companies and currently serves as Managing Partner of Edison IV, V, VI and VII limited partnerships.

Mr. Martinson served as Chair of National Venture Capital Association and several entrepreneurial groups. His current Board of Director seats span technology, trade, education, and community organizations. The Martinson Family Foundation supports unique programs at 15 colleges to improve K-12 STEM instruction.

Mr. Martinson earned his BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1970 and he has received two Master degrees and two honorary doctorates. Mr. Martinson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during the Vietnam War.

In 2008 Mr. Martinson was named a Distinguished Graduate by the Air Force Academy. Mr. Martinson sponsors the Just In Time Education and the Martinson Academic Innovation Fund and serves on the Academic Stewardship and Strategic Planning Committees as a Founding Director of the Air Force Academy Endowment.
