Gregg C. Popovich '70

Gregg Popovich is currently the Head Coach of the San Antonio Spurs and has led the team to four NBA Championships in his 11 seasons (1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007).  He was named the 2003 NBA Coach of the Year and is the Spurs all-time leader in both regular season and playoff wins.  Mr. Popovich is a 1970 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Soviet studies.  After graduation, Mr. Popovich served his five-year military commitment, including an assignment as an assistant coach at the Air Force Academy.  He has coached successful teams at multiple levels and has served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball’s Men’s Senior Team.  Mr. Popovich is a very active member of the San Antonio community and has been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.
